About Phoebe Powell-Moore

Phoebe is a New Zealand based artist inspired by the fantastic work of Tolkien and the commendable interpretations of Sir Peter Jackson.

The world of Tolkien is vivid, enchanting and inspiring. It is the cradle of fantasy and ever since childhood, Phoebe has wished to compliment Tolkien and his universe through artistic emulation. Technique is simply mechanical without love behind it, yet it is the hope that in these works, the love of this fantastic world shines through the paint; for without Tolkien,  life would be just that bit more dim. Credit to the incredible films by Sir Peter Jackson is also due. They are a point of great inspiration off which artistic interpretation leaps.  Having Middle Earth brought into the land Phoebe has known all her life is a gift worth a thousand praises. It adds a little more magic to New Zealand, both to see and paint.

Phoebe Powell-Moore grew up in Christchurch, and has been walking up the hills and mountains since a very young age. It is easy to say the unique nature of New Zealand has always been a point of enrapture. Phoebe has painted her whole life, and has now found a niche; Tolkien is what inspires, is what captures, and is what drives these works. As Tolkien says: It is not we, but those who come after who make legends of our time. Let us give them something worthy of remembrance.

It is a goal Phoebe strives toward, to create pieces that could one day fulfill these words.
